The Black Sheep
No matter what we tried,
We're different from the rest,
Be strong, stay true, have self pride,
Being the black sheep can be best!
Oil on canvas (framed)
16"x20"
Inspiration: Inspired by the unpopular black sheep that is different from the flock, and my personal lifelong journey to conquer my feelings of being an outsider.
Textural highlight: Sheep fur painted thickly.

Moonlighting
Under a magical moonlight,
Reeds dance in gentle breeze,
Beauty hidden in bright daylight,
Moonlighting dancers bring forth glees!
Inspiration: This painting was inspired by invasive phragmites that used to be abundant on Turkey Point beach when I first vacationed in the area. It is good that they have been removed. Even though I knew they were bad for the environment, I felt they were transformed at night into something beautiful. It is the duality of nature that I relate to as I am a very left-brained software developer by day but I unleash my beautiful creative right-brained artistic side at night.

Scarecrow
Peak season on a pumpkin patch,
Under farm crow's intense stare,
Unruly pickers dare not snatch,
Loyal scarecrow's standing guard!
Oil on canvas 16"x20"
Inspiration: Crows like many things in nature have a duality. They have a bad reputation but have positive attributes that can be overlooked.
Textural highlight: Soil painted thickly to create texture.

Partition
Partition:
Lovers parted by a broken cliff,
Under a legendary full moon's light,
Round moon connects a reunion glyph,
Partition fades and lovers reunite.
Oil on canvas
16"x20"
Inspiration: I was born in a small town and raised in the minority Chinese population of Malaysia and this painting was partly inspired by a Chinese legend that I grew up with and celebrated during the Moon Festival. As the story goes, there is a goddess of the moon named Chang'e, only able to descend from the moon once a year to be reunited with her husband on earth during the full harvest moon. Their separation is eternal, but so is their love.
I was also inspired by the many camping trips that I went on after moving to Canada to attend university, where I would imagine stories from the moving silhouettes of trees while sitting around campfires.
Textural highlight: Snow painted thickly on the tree branches and trunks.

Icebreaker
Oil on canvas 16" x 20"
This painting was inspired by the breathtaking icy view of Lake Erie while walking on the beach during my first winter visit to Turkey Point; the moment I truly fell in love with Turkey Point.
As winter comes to an end, the rising sun above Lake Erie radiates a soft warm glow, slowly revealing an organized chaos of melting broken ice chunks in a multitude of sizes, and the remaining reed grass plumes left standing on the beach seemingly begin to engage in conversation about fate.
Textural highlight: Thickly painted ice chunks on the lake.

Pretth in Pink SOLD.jpg
Oil on canvas 12"x16"
Inspired by my kayaking and canoeing trips through marshes in Ontario that were sometimes overrun with visitors.
As the sun begins to set on a cool summer's day in a marsh, this lone unusual frog sits comfortably next to the passage route, in a rare pink water lily, as if wearing a pretty outfit while quietly bidding farewell to the departing disturbance.
Textural highlight: Thickly painted bumps on the frog's skin and lily stamens.
